Welcome future alumnus to West Virginia State University:

As you begin your academic matriculation towards self-fulfillment and achievement, you should be cognizant that everything we do, everything we accomplish – is influenced by that which we have already done.  There is a tie that binds the past to the future, and that tie is tradition.  The rich cultural heritage of West Virginia State serves as a foundation for its traditions of excellence in educational pursuits.  When we speak of our students, we do so with reverence and pride in knowing that ours are the best.

As an alumnus of West Virginia State University, I, too, am fully aware of our University's deep rooted history and its mission to provide outstanding academic, social and moral teachings.  For the past one hundred – sixteen years, these three attributes have served a distinguished and outstanding student population.   A sense of family is prevalent on our campus and is evident throughout the hallowed halls of academia.  Here, at West Virginia State University, you are not a mere number.  You are an individual as diverse as the population to which we eagerly serve.  Your quest for academic proficiency is driven by your personal pursuits to meet and excel beyond your individual goals.

As a freshman entering WVSU, I was provided with strong direction and support.  The support systems in place will serve to motivate and enhance the academic experiences you will encounter.  As you matriculate here at West Virginia State University, be ever mindful that our great past is to be honored; the present to live and work; the future, yours to determine.
