The Office of Career Services and Cooperative Education, a department of Student Affairs, strives to provide services that support the intellectual, personal, and social development of West Virginia State students.  The services prepare students to achieve satisfying careers by offering programs to assist in the career development process and to facilitate experiential learning, thus enabling them to negotiate the dynamics of the global job market.

Career Counseling assists students with academic and career decisions through self-evaluation, career exploration and research and the development of personal and professional goals. The following services are included in career counseling:

· Individual Career Counseling

· Career Inventories

· Personality Assessments

· Computerized Career Guidance Systems

· Career Resource Library

 

The staff assists students seeking employment through job referrals, job fairs and a current list of employment opportunities, which can be found on the office website.  Employment assistance  programs include:

· Work Study Placement

· Job Search Skills Training

· Cooperative Education Opportunities

· Internships

 

Admissions tests are provided for ACT and the Nurse Entrance Test. Students can earn academic credit for previously acquired knowledge through monthly CLEP and DSST testing.  Information on professional proficiency tests is available through the Office of Career Services and Cooperative Education.
