English Placement

Text Box: Students are placed into the appropriate English course based on the Higher Education Policy Commission recommendations. This means that students whose ACT English score is below 18 will be required to complete English 099 at WVSU. It is recommended that students who score 15 or below on the ACT English test take English 098. Students with an ACT English score of 18 or over are authorized to register for English 101.
WVSU encourages all students to take English 098, Critical Reading Skills. English 098 is available for any interested student.
All new students with an ACT English score of 0-17 may take an English placement test during Orientation for a fee of $20.00 (up to 2 tests per subject).

Students are encouraged to register early at WVSU to ensure English classes are available as needed.

Students should consider taking the ACT examination more than once as scores are known to improve in subsequent examination sessions.
