SGA Cabinet

The Executive Branch

The Executive Cabinet is composed of the President and Vice-president of the student body, SGA Treasurer, SGA Social Activities Director, Chief Hearing Examiner, Secretary, a Student Senate Representative to the Executive Cabinet, WVSU Board of Governors Representative, WVSCTC Board of Advisors Representative, and the four Class Presidents.  Subject to review of the current SGA Constitution, the Parliamentarian is also a member of the Executive Cabinet, but without voting privileges.

The SGA President chairs the Executive Cabinet Meetings, appoints student committees, administers programs enacted by the Student Senate, and represents the interests of the student body in dealing with the faculty, University and CTC administration, and various agencies in and around the Institute-Charleston area.

The SGA President and Vice-president both maintain liaison and communication with State legislative and executive officials in Charleston concerning important University and CTC matters and problems as they arise.

The SGA Vice-president chairs SGA Student Senate meetings, advises the SGA President on important matters, and serves on a number of student, faculty, and University and CTC administrative committees.

The SGA Treasurer is in charge of Finance and Organizational Matters, determining the monetary and fiscal policies of the Student Government Association.  The Treasurer, along with the Executive Cabinet formulates the budget and submits it to the Student Senate for changes and/or approval.  The Treasurer must keep adequate records and make periodic written reports of SGA expenditures.

The Chief Hearing Examiner presides over the Student Hearing Examiners, making and interpreting decisions rendered by the Associate Hearing Examiners.  This person chairs the Election Committee, ensuring compliance of Election Rules and Regulations.  The Chief Hearing examiner interprets the SGA Constitution and Bylaws at the request of any member, and the rulings and bindings overruled by majority vote of those present and voting.  The Chief Hearing Examiner researches legal questions and advises the SGA President, Vice-president, Treasurer, Social Activities Director, and Student senate on matters of a constitutional or statutory nature.

The WVSU Board of Governors Representative and WVSCTC Board of Advisors Representative attend scheduled meetings of their respective boards and represent views of the West Virginia State Student Body and provide written and oral reports to the Student Government Association.  They serve as ex-officio members of the Student Senate with no voting privileges.

The Senate Representative to the Executive Cabinet is elected annually from among and by the majority vote of the generally elected Student Senate representatives.  This person represents the Senate at Executive Cabinet meetings and serves as a liaison, reporting to the Senate significant issues or problems discussed at the Executive Cabinet meetings.  In the absence of the SGA Vice-president, the Senate Representative chairs the Senate meeting.
