SGA Senate The Legislative Branch |
|
The Student Senate is the legislative body of SGA. It approves or disapproves all SGA budgetary expenditures, and periodically asks for a review of the Treasurer’s books; approves or disapproves appointments presented by the SGA President; originates and considers Executive Branch originated legislation involving Student Life Programs; and asks for impeachment of Executive and Judicial Branch Officers when there are appropriate grounds.
The 19-member Student Senate is chaired by the SGA Vice-president (who may vote only to make or break a tie), and includes members who are elected annually to represent various aspects of student life (residence halls, Prillerman Hall, student interest groups, Pledging Council, part-time students, and student population district representatives). In addition, the WVSU Board of Governors Representative and WVSCTC Board of Advisors Representative serve as ex-officio members without voting privileges.
The Senate Representative to the Executive Cabinet is elected annually from among and by the majority vote of the generally elected Student Senate representatives. This person represents the Senate at Executive Cabinet meetings and serves as a liaison, reporting to the Senate significant issues or problems discussed at the Executive Cabinet meetings. In the absence of the SGA Vice-president, the Senate Representative chairs the Senate meeting. |
